Welcome to the Department of Geology at FATA University.

I am pleased to inform that FATA University is the first ever Public Sector University in FATA region and offers four years BS program in Geology. The curriculum is designed to meet the present day requirements of industry, are a fine combination of core subjects, and courses from chemistry, physics, mathematics, computer science and humanity disciplines. Field and laboratory work play a vital role in academic excellence. The Department of Geology is in the process of acquiring state-of-the-art scientific equipments to enhance its laboratory facilities and research capabilities. The Department envisions a research based oriented future where students will be provided ample opportunities to enhance their knowledge through field observations and laboratory experiments and to experience the joy of learning and excitement of discovery in the field of Geology. Nowadays, it is very clear that our future depends on the sustainable use of Earth’s resources. The challenge of sustainability becomes more formidable each day as Earth’s population grows, placing ever-increasing demands on global water, mineral and energy supplies. The focus of our department is preparing students to tackle the demanding challenges of using Earth’s resources in a sustainable manner. We encourage students who aspire to adopt a challenging, outdoor- career in Geology program, keen to learn about the earth as a planet and want to gain knowledge and skills to explore its hidden treasures (oil and gas, minerals, and water) for the benefit of humanity and economic prosperity of Pakistan. We take our role very seriously and welcome all students who wish to be the future leaders of geological sciences.

Overview

BS Geology (4-years degree program) is a multidisciplinary science that seeks to understand how the Earth works. It traditionally focused on the solid Earth (rocks, minerals, mountain belts, volcanoes, oceans etc.) as well as the history of life (paleontology). In recent decades it become increasingly concerned with the history of Earth's climate and with the impact that people have had on our environment. The Geology thus encompasses everything from the atmosphere to the oceans to the Earth’s surface to its crust, mantle and core. Careers in Geology range from environmental work to the assessment and protection of water/mineral resources to geotechnical engineering to geological engineering (working with civil engineers) to oil and natural gas exploration to government regulatory and geologic hazards to academic research.

Vision

To build a well-equipped Department of International repute of Applied Geology.

Mission

To prepare students for the better understanding of the Earth and its resources, and to use its resources in a sustainable way.
